From My Home to Yours—Learn Moroccan Arabic with Confidence.

Hi! I'm Shalene, the founder of Darija Drop—a 35-year-old American woman who unexpectedly became fluent in Moroccan Arabic... one conversation, one kitchen exchange, one mother-in-law moment at a time.

I met my Moroccan husband when I was just 17. Two months later, we were married—and from the very first day, my mother-in-law (who doesn’t speak a word of English) started speaking to me in Darija. That was it. No translations. No lessons. Just love, immersion, and a whole lot of hand gestures in the beginning.

I didn’t learn Darija from a textbook. I learned it through life.
At family dinners. In small talk. Through tears, laughter, and raising children.

Now, years later, I speak Darija daily—not just with my mother-in-law, but also with my children. It’s deeply important to me that they not only understand their Moroccan roots, but speak their language and live their culture.

Why I Created Darija Drop

So many people reach out to me saying:

“I want to speak with my Moroccan husband’s family.”
“I wish I could understand my in-laws.”
“I just want to belong in the culture I married into.”
“I want my kids to speak Darija, but I don’t even know where to start.”

I created Darija Drop for all of you.

Whether you're:

  • Married into a Moroccan family (like me),

  • A revert to Islam navigating Moroccan community life,

  • Traveling to Morocco and want to really connect,

  • Raising kids and want them to know their heritage

  • Or maybe even Moroccan, but never taught by your parents

You’re in the right place.

This isn’t “academic Arabic.” It’s real-life Darija—the way people actually speak in Moroccan homes, souks, taxis, and tea gatherings.

And don’t worry—I make it beginner-friendly, bite-sized, and filled with context so you don’t just memorize words… you actually feel the language.

One Drop at a Time

Every lesson, every phrasebook, every course here is designed to help you build confidence in Moroccan Arabic—one drop at a time.

Let’s learn together.

With love,
Shalene D.
